My name is Joni Krejchi and I was born and raised in Cedar Falls. I have spent my whole life here with the exception of living in Mahtomedi, a suburb of St. Paul, for two and a half years. My husband’s name is David and I have two sons. Brock is studying chemistry at Hawkeye/UNI and lives in an apartment in Waterloo. Chase will graduate from Cedar falls High School this year and plans to go to Hawkeye in the near future. I have a dog named Lillian Suzette and two chinchillas, Dulcea and Summertime.
I completed my undergraduate work at the University of Northern Iowa. I teach fifth and sixth grade at St. Patrick School. I am in my sixth year teaching in Unit C. Previously, I taught first and second grade for seven years. Prior to that, I worked at the preschool level, in Minnesota. I thoroughly enjoy working with children of all ages. I am amazed with their positive outlooks, eager minds, and willing hands. I feel there is so much more for me to learn from them.
I enjoy teaching many subjects but one of my favorites is art class. My creativity comes from my parents, both deceased, that allowed me freedom to explore. It has taught me to focus on the process of experiences, rather than the final outcome. I try to bring this idea out in the art students I teach.
I am very proud of the community we live in. I help with downtown events such as ARTapalooza and The Cedar Basin Jazz Festival. I am a counselor with the Boy Scouts and I am on the Catholic Committee for Scouting. I serve as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Patrick Church. I am the on the Leadership Committee at school and on the board of our CPTO (Catholic Parent-Teacher Organization.) I am a member of the Fine Art Educators through AEA267. I am also a small group leader for St. Patrick Youth Ministry, working with sophomores and juniors.
In my spare time, I enjoy cheering for the UNI Panthers, working on my our river house, jet skiing, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work within the St. Patrick community.
