I am a first and second grade teacher at St. Patrick School. This is my fifth year teaching at this level, however, over the thirteen years I have been teaching here, I have taught first through eighth grade. Some of the subject areas I have taught are Social Studies, Art, and Math, however, my passion is teaching reading and writing. St. Patrick School is a fantastic community. There is so much love, support, and commitment toward one another, the school, and our mission to serve Christ. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the first and second graders emerge into beginning readers and writers and love watching their growth toward becoming peaceful followers of Jesus. They develop and learn so much during these beginning academic years. I love this year’s theme of peace because our focus at this level is modeling and teaching the students how to interact with each other appropriately. They must learn to problem solve social conflicts in their play, take turns when speaking by raising a hand without interrupting, and work cooperatively with one another in all subject areas throughout the day.
I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1995 where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree. I have a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Reading Education. I have taken several reading courses each year to keep myself updated on the current research on effective teaching strategies.
I have been a member of the Community of Faith Committee since I have joined the staff, and have been on the Technology Committee for eight years. My family and I are quite active at St. Stephen Catholic Student Center. I have cantered and lectured there since my freshman year in college. My husband and I met at the Center, however, joined the St. Patrick Parish seven years ago. I have also cantered at St. Patrick Church the past three years and have been a Eucharistic Minister for the school Masses since I‘ve been hired. My three boys keep my family busy with sporting, music, and recreational activities in the community.
