My name is Lisa Newgard and I am the technology teacher. I team teach with all of the classroom teachers to integrate technology into classroom curriculum. I also am in charge of fixing computers and other electronic devices when they break! This is my second year teaching here and I enjoy what I do because it’s different everyday.
I have a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University. Within that degree I have endorsements to teach Social Studies and Spanish, along with a minor in Educational Computing. I also have my reading endorsement from Upper Iowa University. Keeping current with technology is so important I attend the annual ITEC (Iowa Technology Education Connection) Conference to find new ideas and information to share with the staff.
Within the school I am a member of the Community of Faith committee as well as chair of the technology committee. Currently I represent St. Patrick School with Lora Sink in the Archdiocesen TCL (Technology Curriculum Leadership) Program. Outside of school I am a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Waterloo. I have been a member there for 25+ years. I work with high school students through the CORE program on Wednesday nights. Within the community I volunteer for Relay for Life of Black Hawk County.
This year’s gospel value of peace is woven into my teaching within technology. With students, we focus on being peaceful when using computers (by treating them like we would treat our own) and when working collaboratively with technology. Also, as teachers, we created our plans for peace during the year on computers to share with one another. Those are just a few ways peace is integrated into the technology curriculum. |
