Students Raise Money for Immigrants in Postville
Seventh and Eighth grade students from St. Patrick School in Cedar Falls raised money for the Hispanic Ministry Fund in Postville. After hearing about the Postville raids the students in the unit felt it important to do something. They organized an "Out of Uniform" day where students, teachers, and staff at the school were allowed to be out of uniform for a donation to the cause. The students raised $437.25. They also used their Spanish learning to make cards. The unit plans on following up on this project by collecting donations of other forms during the year. They are also looking for a speaker to provide first hand knowledge of the event and what has happened since.
